I had this happen a few years ago. I was not as emotionally evolved as I am now and did not handle it well. I had a techy friend trace the ISP address and found out it was some girl in a mental institution in Canada. I called and actually spoke to her doctors who restricted her use of the computer after that.
I realized that it was a case of "consider the source". I have since not responded to negative email flame wars. I just ignore them. I try to handle my side of the street with dignity, respect, and mindfulness and that avoids most of my problems of the past.
I found that watching the news has the same negative effect on me. Now I limit my viewing and avoid things that upset me since the media thrives on bad news.
One last bit - the Monkess at my local Buddhist temple had this great lesson for me. When someone wants to give you a gift, you do not have to accept it. A grouchy face, a harsh word, a bad attitude - these are all gifts. It may be the only thing these people have to offer. You do not have to accept them. Do not take that gift into your house, put it in the back of your closet until you can decide what to do with it, and let it be a burden. Don't even take it and hand it back. Just refuse the gift. Then your center is not disturbed.
Good luck.
